One of those classics that's clearly in the ancestral line of almost any modern example of its genre, it also stands up quite well on the merits. The exchanges between Boyer and Bergman remain as startlingly raw and harrowing a portrait of psychological abuse as you'll find in almost any modern psychothriller, and the script doles out its clues deliberately enough that it keeps you guessing about certain aspects of the central mystery until the end, even as the whole picture becomes clearer.

Definitely worth renting if you like old movies or thrillers, even more so if you're a cinematic history geek like me.
