Review of Gaslight (1944) by Ian P — 20 Nov 2011
George Cukor's Gaslight is a good, well-plotted psychological thriller. With Ingrid Bergman at her best and even her sexiest. It's the story about the young Paula Alquist who's the niece of the famous opera singer Alice Alquist who's been killed in her apartment in London.
Paula is send to Italy to be an opera singer herself. There's she meets the enchanting Gregory Anton whom she fall in love with him and marries him. But it seems that Anton has other plans than marring her, specially the case when they both decides to move into the old apartment in London where Paula's mother were murdered.
A house that can bring back some bad memories. My conclusion about Gaslight that it's a good thriller with a great amount of psychology that it's easy to spot and understand. And some great performances, specially by Bergman.
Thumbs up.
