Review of Gasland (2010) by Jonathan W — 03 Feb 2011
This documentary film pretty much made my blood boil and brain sizzle with anger and frustration. As I watched interviews from families and people becoming sick, brain-damaged and swindled on their own land, I learned that their air, land and water sources had become contaminated from the hydraulic fracturing chemicals being used in the shale drilling process.
Out in rural America, ordinary citizens were being played like guinea pigs, having their hearts crushed and souls taken by wealthy energy companies, drilling everywhere like a free-for-all. After watching this film, I spent a long time on the internet researching articles on shale drilling and fracking, printing out maps of Marcellus Shale wells in my state of Pennsylvania, as well as other Shale Gas regions.
I feel that it is now in my duty to inform as many people as I can, after this film opened my eyes to what is happening around me. This is what a great film can do, no matter how poor the camerawork and production is (which I did find in this film).
The fact remains is that the substance and material in this movie supersedes any aesthetic flaws. For that I give this film 4 stars, but it really should be 5 stars and even more, priceless/unparalleled due to the timely nature of the corrupt Gas Fracking revolution.
This is more than just a movie, it is reality.
