Review of Gasland (2010) by David B — 07 May 2011
Another brilliant yet heartbreaking documentary telling a horror story that is not reaching enough Americans (apart from those being poisoned by unregulated natural gas drilling); in a nutshell, it shows how natural gas drilling in the US has become a total free-for-all ever since the passing of the 2005 energy bill which includes a clause (known as the Halliburton Loophole) that exempts natural gas drilling from the protective provisions of the Clean Air Act; the Clean Water Act; the Safe Drinking Water Act; and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act -- WTF?! One would think that big oil companies would be willing to re-invest 1 or 2 billion dollars out of $40 billion (tax-free) profits in order not to destroy the health and livelihoods of a few hundred thousand US citizens, not to mention countless animals, forests and streams, but who fucking cares about such details.
.. Along with "The Inside Job", this should be required viewing for all high school kids and/or anyone who thinks this country is doing just fine.
