Review of Garfield (2004) by Rachel H — 27 Nov 2010

I was fairly young when I first saw this movie and when I saw it I liked it. But then again, I was a kid, and kids are way too easy to please and will like any movie that they see. This movie wasn't all bad, in fact, it was kinda funny at times, but it's pretty simplistic and meant strictly for the kiddies.

Bill Murray makes a good garfield, and the best thing about the movie was by far the main good thing about the movie. The human characters did pretty well, but suffer from kid-movie syndrome and they get pretty silly at times. All in all, okay performances.

There were a couple funny moments in it, but most of the moments don't extend past stupid pratfalls and gags. All in all, the jokes aren't really funny, but a few of them are. Actually, one of the good things about the movie was the CGI Garfield (which was quite novel, like the critic consensus said) and Garfield's interactions with Odie.

Those were the only good things in the movie, the rest of it was actually quite dull and stupid. For a goofy kids movie, it's actually surprisingly boring and the few funny moments are few and far between.

Now I've bashed the movie so much you're probably wondering why I didn't just give it a zero. Well, some parts of it were enjoyable and Bill Murray actually makes a good Garfield. Also, kids and maybe some fans of the comic strip will like it, so it's not completely horrible.

If you haven't seen this, don't. It's dull, it suffers from kids-movie syndrome, but the sequel is much worse, and the review of that will be coming soon. All in all, not completely horrible, but still not very good. This is one strictly for the kiddies.
