Review of Garfield (2004) by Marco S — 04 Mar 2011
One great big orange turd of a film. I put it on, because I needed something to vaguely dip in and out of whilst I was doing my work; and it didn't disappoint. This film is pretty bad, after I watched it I presumed it was early to late nineties - because the CGI is so bad, I was shocked when I found out it was 2004.
Shocked and slightly appalled. The storyline is pretty weak, the main character had to be CGI but not sure why the other animals (especially the dog) weren't. It didn't seem to work. The original Garfield cartoons were subtle, nuanced and full of sarcasm; this is just a slapstick fest with set piece humour that isn't executed particularly well.
I suppose it does have a bit of a feel good message, and if I were about 6 and had nothing to do on a sunday afternoon, this might've kept me amused for 1 hour 20 minutes. But I'm not 6, I already had something to do and it was just a big orangey disappointment.
Low expectations, met perfectly.
