Review of Garfield (2004) by Oxana . — 22 Jun 2011
A yellow fat cat who hates Mondays and has a superiority complex. I used to watch the TV show as a kid, and although I don't remember much of it, I could tell these come from the same source.
I found myself enjoying this film although it was nothing special. Garfield didn't look real - perhaps on purpose - although his interaction with the "real" characters was pretty seamless.
You gotta love Odie, and even their lovesick owner Jon Arbuckle, who in this movie has plenty more romantic luck with their next-door-vet Liz than I ever recall from the cartoon.
The plot is entertaining: Garfield is the cat number one in their house - until along comes the loveable dog Odie, who is also Jon's key to spend time with Liz, his high school crush.
I enjoyed the story, although it wasn't funny at all (I would assume they tried to make it a comedy, but failed). Even if a bit ridiculous at times, I liked all that was going on (Odie running away and Garfield being forced to rescue his rival).
Not the greatest movie in the world, but for me it worked.
