Review of Garden State (2004) by John A — 29 May 2010
Now seeing it again after many years, this film has not aged all that well. Portman is the best thing about it--at least she brings some life and energy to the proceedings. Braff and Holm in particular just kind of sit there through the whole movie.
The cinematography and set design is too clever by half. And the writer/director simply isn't wise enough to comment on this situation with any kind of lasting meaning. I dig some of the music, and Portman, but otherwise, this was pretty bland.
