Review of Garden State (2004) by Carol H — 16 Sep 2012
Zach Braff wrote, directed, and starred in "Garden State", a quirky indie gem about a minor Hollywood actor returning to his hometown for his mother's funeral. Quite dark in its humor, deadpan in delivery, and awkward moments magnified, it seems like "Scrubs" on a much bleaker direction.
Yet not as surreal. Braff hit such a high with his directorial debut, yet he hasn't followed it up with anything after all these years. Let's hope "Garden State" won't be the end of it, like Charles Laughton directing "The Night Of The Hunter".
We'd like to see more.
