Review of Garden State (2004) by Joey S — 04 Feb 2013
Garden State is a sweet romantic dramedy with a quirky enough script and impressive enough direction to make it an enjoyable film and a surprisingly great directorial debut for Zach Braff of Scrubs fame.
Natalie Portman's character is more or less a romantic movie stereotype, often called the "manic pixie dream girl," but it's okay because her character is likeable despite the clichéd personality.
It's not perfect, but Zach Braff definitely shows a great deal of potential as a filmmaker with Garden State, and hopefully he will make more films of the same quality in the future.
