Review of Garden State (2004) by Brockr — 18 Aug 2004
A full 8 not a 7.5 as other friends of mine have suggested. I really believe this is the best movie I have seen this year. From hearing from other sources this is rated #2 behind dogville. I really hope Zach Braff gets an oscar nod for origal screenplay or something because I think he deserves to be nominated at least, maybe not a win as of yet but a nomination none the less.
Natalie Portman while a good performance is far from Oscar quality. Overall the movies comedy was crisp and clever. Never a joke falling flat. Braff's demenor is the perfect offbeat quality that lots of new age directors strive for and fall on their faces.
Braff does a great job in his directoral debut. Bravo.
