Review of Garden State (2004) by Lucas S — 01 Mar 2011
One of those indie things of the 2000's that thinks that being "cute", is enought to be good. Well, it happens that if a movie is just "cute" and nothing more it becomes a really, really boring experience.
No, it's not a bad film, but is too harmlesss to call it good. And there are also some really embarassing moments, like all the ones with Natalie Portman, portraying an extremely anoying character (nothing wrong with your performance darling, I love you, call me) and every scene is filled sappyness.
Now for the good things, The Zach Braff character is very good and easy to relate, I have the feeling that the whole existence of this film was to create a character like this. It also has some interesting existencial conflicts, that did a well job in representing the contemporary teenager.
Well that's it, sorry if it doesn't look so good, it's my first review in months.
Final Rating: 6.2.
