Review of Garage Days (2002) by Jason Y — 18 Jul 2004
This movie was initially billed as a true rock-star story in line w/ Almost Famous with a touch of Trainspotting. The director, Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot) definitely has a flair behind the camera and some good visual ideas, but the rest of the movie comes off of sitcom-ish and unreal.
Almost Famous benefits from having characters that we care for but unfortunately Garage Days is filled with cardboard cutouts for the most part. We don't really see anything new from this movie except for maybe some more zany Australian humor (better done by Rob Sitch, IMHO).
It has it's humorous moments, but I was pretty disappointed -- maybe because my expectations were so high. Nonetheless, this might be a good rental to enjoy with a beer and some buds (the human and organic types).
