Review of Gangster Squad (2013) by Edward C — 07 Nov 2013
Plot/Summary,os Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and-if he has his way-every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart.
My Review.
This is a straight up guilty pleasure crime movie. They throw in a bunch of big star actors and actresses in the movie for this fun and violent crime movie. Inspired by true events Gangster Squad revolves around crime lord Mickey Cohen who nearly owns the city. He owns the women, drugs, and cops. But there are a group of cops who will not just stand by and watch there city get taken by an eastern crook, they are the Gangster Squad. This film is what I want in a crime film a big crime lord and a group of cops going to bring him down, and that's what gives this Gangster Squad a 5 out of 5.
