Gangster Squad is a unique combination between noir and modern day action, and will provide the action and visuals to appeal most viewers. For the more picky viewers, Gangster Squad lacks a good enough script to keep up with its cast.

Speaking of the cast, most of the stars but up good performances (Sean Penn is as good as ever) but more often than not in the film, the cast doesn't offer anything special. Most of Gangster Squad is entertaining, but nothing is special, unique, or memorable, placing the film with tons of other films in the "Generic Blockbuster" category.
