Review of Gangster Squad (2013) by Alex D — 23 Aug 2013
Maybe shallow characters and not enough development, but damn does it ever look great. You end up looking the characters enough to make you laugh, cheer and even fear for their lives. Warner brothers really dropped to ball by not even advertising their full star studded cast (all in the fear of the ripple affects of sandyhook) While it seemed like a good idea to ward off controversy, the movie is good enough to stand on its own.
Ryan Gosling shows how he will be a Hollywood legend by adding a unique performance as an apathetic cool cop who you can see his sky remarks developing in his head and picking the one that gives him enough edge but still keeps him out of trouble.
Did we need more in depth story and drama? Maybe, because while The Untouchables barleyy had more its better paced, but it passes up its opportunity to become a modern Young Guns because the studios too scared to offend the general public.
For a great watch with tons of action, comedy, grit, violence and just fan near perfect cinematography Gangster Squad is for you.
