Review of Gangster No. 1 (2000) by Bill B — 11 Mar 2010
Gave Paul McGuigan's stylish gangster flick another look this afternoon, and it holds up amazingly well.
Paul Bettany gives a tremendously intense performance as the young man that the modern day Malcolm McDowell will become. The story begins in modern time, but quickly jumps to flashbacks narrated by McDowell that show his bloody rise to power in the British underworld and the toll it takes on him over the years.
Definitely recommended.
