Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Kenneth L — 03 Jul 2011
I found This film captivating. It gave excellent insight into the way in which the proud City of New York was founded and built. It attempted topiant an historically accurate picture of what life was like in New York during the American Civil War which was so much more than a battle between the Confederate and the Union.
It highlighted the reaction of 'New Yorkers' to the emancipation proclamation and to the increase of foreigners invading there beloved country. It was about honour, brotherhood and the pursuit of happiness be through corrupt means or legal channels.
Not a film for everyone due to its historical context but if you can get past the dialect and gore you will witness one of the greatest historical pieces every made in my opinion. Thumbs up.
