Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Chanel M — 19 Apr 2012
I didn't know what to expect sitting down to watch "Gangs of New York" for the first time. After watching it, I can say that I enjoyed it quite a bit. Sure, the story is simple, but it is really well told and the backdrop of 1800s New York was phenomenal.
And, yes, the movie is LONG running over 2 and half hours, but I can honestly say I was never bored. The story just drew me in even though it could be confusing at times. My only other complaint would be that the ending kind of feels underwhelming.
I guess I just expected more with it. Anyways, as for the acting, Daniel Day-Lewis is fantastic as usual and Leonardo DiCaprio is as well. As for Cameron Diaz, she's alright. Didn't really add anything to the movie nor take it away.
