Review of Gangs of New York (1938) by Zachary R — 26 Jun 2012
This is a good movie that takes place during the Civil War, where gangs really did control New York and politicians were corrupted and people suffered. If there is one thing that director Martin Scorsese did it was capture that effect as well as the prejudices that the Irish as well as other people faced in the time.
Also there is a good story of vengence where Amsterdam Vallon wants to kill William "Bill the Butcher" Cutting for killing his father. The story is moving, the plot is interesting to keep people into it and even though this didn't give Scorsese the Academy Award he was looking for it is still a great film.
10 out of 10.
