Review of Gangs of New York (1938) by Karin R — 21 Jul 2013

Solid performances across the board with the exception of Cameron Diaz, who really kills it for me. The story is gripping, historically tense and very visceral at times; Leonardo DiCaprio has a nasty tendency to play himself playing his character but manages to, if not overcome, at least hide that in this picture.

We all know that Daniel Day-Lewis carries this film, as he does many of his films, but his supporting cast is quite good as well for setting the tone for this historical drama.
