Review of Gandhi (1982) by Min K — 25 Dec 2010
This work of art is a prime example how a film can at once tell a story, spark historical interest as well as inspire us to become better people. Yes, it's long, but each minute serves to capture the character of the man known as Gandhi.
The film carefully shows us Gandhi as a human struggling to hold onto his convictions about faith and peace. Ben Kingsley earned a well-deserved Oscar for his performance as the lead - his ability to capture the humanity of Gandhi at different stages of his life is remarkable.
The film as a whole is written, edited and directed masterfully, as each additional character only magnifies the purpose of the film without feeling forced. "Gandhi" causes me to come away quite pensive about life and humanity, thinking about what is worth fighting for and where my own convictions lie.
Definitely a film to be remembered in centuries to come.
