Review of Gandhi (1982) by Pamela Q — 12 Feb 2012
Greatness cannot be hidden. Mohandas K. Gandhi, the great Indian political leader who used nonviolence resistance to win the Indian freedom from the British Empire lived to see that dream split in the partition of India and Pakistan.
Gandhi, who was born Hindu but preached the brotherhood of men under one God, was assinated in Delhi by a Hindu fanatic. The film which was 3 hours and 11minutes long and producer and director Richard Attenborough dragged the beginning a little to long.
Other than that the movie was extraordinary. The movie follows him in his days as a young lawyer in South Africa through the his political activism and asceticism. Gandhi stated, "No man's life can be told in one year" because everyone you come in contact with helps shape your life.
General Smoot's new law stated they have to carry cards with their fingerprints with them at all times. Also they could only marry through christian marriage. The policemen may enter their homes any time and demand to see the card.
Gandhi also stated, "One man's job is no better than the others. They may torture my body, break my bones, or even kill me but they cannot take my obidence. The Indians demostrated peacefully but was assaulted and incarcerated.
Gandhi was assinated in Delhi by a Hindu fanatic at the age of seventy-nine.
