Gandhi is a movie about a young man who took a stand for what he felt was right. He stood up not only for his Indian people, but for the world. Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off of a train for being Indian and traveling first class. He started a non-violent protest because he realized this was wrong. He was arrested several times but the government finally gave in and began to recognize the rights of Indians. So after this, Gandhi is allowed to come back to India and he was encouraged to fight for India's independence from the British Empire. After many trials and tribulations to gain this independence, it is finally granted but more and more problems continue to occur. Religion tensions rise and violence quickly erupts nationally. Even then Gandhi still refuses to give up and goes on a hunger strike until the violent stops in which it does but the nations are still divided and Gandhi is eventually assassinated.

He reminds me a lot of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He fought for freedom for his people until justice was served and he lost his life doing it. This movie relates to World Religions because this was a man who wouldn't give in or give up for what he believed in and this is the case in many religions over the world today. They believe what they believe and many will die defending their beliefs. For example, Gandhi stood up for Indians while Christians for example will stand up for their belief in God and Jesus Christ. He was punished and treated wrong for what he felt was right and many today in terms of religion have been treated different or even looked at strange for their belief system. So it relates closely to World Religion; the only difference is what is being defended, for Gandhi it was Indians for others it is religion.
