Review of Gandhi (1982) by Rebecca O — 10 Jun 2012
The movie of Gandhi is based on problems for Indians. The movie begins with a statement from the filmmakers explaining their method to filming Gandhi's story. The life of Gandhi is not showed in the film.
Instead, the story goes back about 55 years to an early life changing event that happened in 1893, Gandhi at age 24 was thrown off a South African train for being an Indian sitting in a first class even though he had a ticket.
Ghandi had to realize early about the discrimination against Indians, so he started a nonviolent protest for the rights of all Indians in South Africa. After various arrests and unwanted attention by everyone, the government finally made some rights for Indians.
After Gandhi won his protest he became a hero to Indians everywhere. Then not long after the ending of World War II Britain also gave Indians independence. Ghandi spent a lot of his time fighting for rights for Indians.
He showed bravery, courage, and wisdom by standing up to fight for something he firmly believed in. If Ghandi had not fought back when he was thrown off the train Indians would probably still be fighting for rights today.
This film was very interesting and educational.
