Review of Gandhi (1982) by Landon T — 30 Sep 2012
I really enjoyed watching Gandhi. Honestly when I saw it was 3 hours long I was dreading it a little. The entire movie was entertaining and I never lost interest.
Gandhi was a Hindu that was married at age 13 and became educated and went to law school. He wasn't too interested in law after passing the bar exam. He then became more interested in ending discrimination in the Indian minority. His interest in ending the British reign in India was too great and overcame his interest in law. After their eventual freedom, Gandhi's job was not done. The fighting between the Muslims and Hindus caused his well-known hunger strike. The fighting eventually ended and resulted in a division between the Muslims and Hindus. His fight for peace in the nation invited anger from many people around him. He was eventually assassinated by one of the person's he angered.
Gandhi ties into our class currently since we just finished up the Hinduism section. He didn't see people in color, race, or sex. He just simply saw people and strongly believed that all people deserved the same amount of respect and fairness in all aspects of their lives. His tragic end was unfathomable considering the way he lived his life in treating people properly. I couldn't believe that there would be a logical reason to assassinate someone who was so kind, caring, considerate, and passionate about his life and the life of others. I can appreciate his life and his life's work much more considerable since watching Gandhi and it was interesting to learn that he went through a formal education to become a lawyer.
