Review of Gandhi (1982) by Bradley W — 07 Jul 2012
Gandhi is a biographical epic about one of the most inspirational men in all of history, and served us with one of the greatest performances ever in film. Ben Kingsley as Gandhi is simply astounding, I mean this man could've been his twin brother.
Kingsley has a bit of Indian heritage so it made him perfect, and boy was he perfect. He captures the sensitivity and strength of this man perfectly and just looking at him we see that he is fully in his role.
The entire ensemble cast is incredible, and they all made this one of the most well acted films of the 80's. Director Richard Attenborough really captures the story brilliantly by making this three hour long film to a work of art.
The story is a tale about freedom through peace and how non-violence gave the man the power to take down an empire. It never ceases to amaze me the detail they put into every scene in this films story, and all Gandhi's acts of non-aggression is just genius film making.
We are fully intrigued by the film as it sets us up for the murder of Gandhi, and how even in death his teachings live on. Gandhi is an inspirational movie about an inspirational man, and is one of the greatest biographical films you will ever see.
A true masterpiece.
