Review of Gamer (2001) by Richard S — 21 Nov 2010
The idea of using prisoners on death row for entertainment purposes is getting so old so fast that its reality is probably right around the corner. This movie was like watching Surrogates and Death Race together- not very original, although some aspects are kinda cool.
I always like movies that take place just a few years in the future and seeing the tech projection aspects- like in this one, where your computer is like a three dimensional room-sized dome with hand and voice activated control.
However, after seeing this movie, like 5 minutes later I saw a commercial for Sims 3, and it struck me as ironic and creepy. Because as nasty as it is to think of some naked, fat, wheelchair-ridden man perv stuffing his face with maple syrup covered waffles being a club hookergirl in a futuristic social game- the reality that there probably already is one doing the same thing on his computer is kinda disturbing.
Oh well. :P.
