Review of Gamer (2001) by Jon R — 25 Jan 2012
-A decently conceived concept of futuristic mind control that could, and likely will happen (although, not in the way of some dumb replicating cells) that ends up being executed blandly.
-This movie offers suggestions of back stories and depth but never really explains anything and instead of leaving it vague for a good reason; it's left vague to spend more time on explosions and special effects.
-My first experience with Michael C. Hall. I'm looking forward to watching Dexter on my queue. [Second time around: Hall is fantastic as Dexter. As Castle he's accent seems to come and co. Not a favorable role.].
-Great stereotype of a fat, sweaty, ugly, naked slob sitting in a motorized chair playing mind-videogames. Yuck.
-Having just watched Crank 2, I wasn't at all surprised to see the direction credits at the end of this. Far too many distracting "camera shorting out" effects thrown into the action stuff.
-Speaking of action stuff, all the Slayer scenes seemed absolutely pointless. Action for the sake of being action. It mirrors a hectic video game battle well though.
