Review of Game of Death II (1981) by Noah V — 10 May 2007
"Game of Death"s cash-in status could be forgiven due to it's delivering of Bruce Lee's last fight [and indeed the effort put into trying to make it look good] but this sequal doesn't even try.
It is so much worse, given that all the stock footage used to "cast" Bruce Lee into the film [eight years after his death no less!] is useless- where in "Game of Death" there was at least a good ten minute fight sequence, this offers up pathetic scenes of Lee sitting at a desk; Lee sipping tea; Lee stood in a doorway, etc.
etc., and uses a lookalike to gel the footage together. The film-makers even go so far as to intersperse footage of Lee from his days as a child actor [as part of a flashback scene] in order to cash-in further.
Very poor indeed. A classic example of movie-studio greed, this could easily have been a decent sequal without trying to drag Bruce's image into it- Tony Lung, who plays the brother of Lee's character and replaces him as the movie's star halfway through, is clearly a talent and could've easily carried the film from the start and saved this second defiling of Bruce Lee's legacy.
