Review of Game Night (2018) by Jon S — 26 Feb 2018
Game Night has a decent number of amusing moments, but very few overtly funny ones. Stretches of the movie feel like a waste of a talented cast. The couples of Jason Bateman/Rachel McAdams and Lamorne Morris/Kylie Bunbury, in particular, have good chemistry but they aren't given much interesting to do.
The dramatic conflicts intended to anchor the comedic parts are rushed and insubstantial. Unlike the creators' tonally-similar Horrible Bosses, there's no sense of unpredictability or real peril to generate either investment in the characters or unexpected hilarity.
The result is enjoyable fluff, mildly humorous and instantly forgettable.
