Review of Game Change (2012) by Cory W — 15 Jun 2013
It's hard to take much of it seriously with its unevenness and fictionalization of the events (I don't believe Ed Harris' John McCain swore as much he did in real life). I feel Palin's problem was her folksiness trying to come across to the northern states and the elites of the world, but also she probably was a little overwhelmed by the seriousness of the job. I don't feel she lacked the intelligence as many progressives and liberals thought she did, but I feel the movie at one point makes her a comedic joke to the point of "SNL"-esque satire and at another point makes her a woman burdened by the political jockeying and the control of the McCain campaign.
It also doesn't say much for the movie when they only focus on the Republican ticket but not the Democratic ticket. I'm all for fairness and the filmmakers should've showed that. I'm not defending Palin or McCain, or the Republicans even (we were screwed any other way in 2008 with two inexperienced candidates one step away from the presidency).
2012, we could've really changed things around, but we're stuck with this bozo for four more years, and we haven't gotten any better. Thanks America. Not much of a "game change.".
