Review of Galaxy Quest (1999) by Adam S — 09 Mar 2014
Praised by Star Trek alumni such as Patrick Stewart, Wil Wheaton and George Takei, "Galaxy Quest" acts as a brilliant spoof of the venerable sci-fi series which had the potential to be over-whelmingly silly, but instead turns into a fun romp.
Starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Daryl Mitchell, Tony Shalhoub and Sam Rockwell as the cast of a Star Trek like series who end up rescuing the galaxy for real due to an intergalactic communication error, many aspects of the Trek franchise are effectively parodied, including William Shatner's ego, Leonard Nimoy's lukewarm feelings about the series, redshirts, Trekkies and the ridiculous plots of some episodes (which results in Allen and Weaver having to navigate "crushers" in the ship, purely because a writer put them there).
This a really fun sci-fi comedy, something that isn't easy to pull off, but it's done with style here.
