Review of Galaxy Quest (1999) by Sofia Å — 28 Jan 2010
Cozy fun. Others would call it family-oriented fun or something like that. But I'm a big fan of it. Galaxy Quest is Star Trek-parody with a heart. And a cast! Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tim Allen... Together they are the ex-actors from a cancelled television show, now they make appearances at sci-fi-conventions. Little do they know that they have more fans than the "nerds" who come to beg for their autographs. A group of actual aliens have mistaken their show for "historical documents" and now they need the team to help them fight for their survival in space. Beam me up, Scotty. No script, no craft service, just actual reality.
It's a lovely comedy with Tim Allen doing what he does best as "Commander" Taggart. Tim Allen-comedies is a guilty pleasure of mine(except for Wild Hogs). Sigourney Weaver is a natural in space, and does the unusual part as a decorative blonde. Alan Rickman is great as the british failed "serious" actor. This part seems tailor-made for him. The Thermians are as cute as can be with amongst others Enrico Colantoni and Patrick Breen as naïve alien crew. I like it a lot. It's great fun for those days you really don't want anything too heavy. Cozy fun.
