Review of Gacy (2003) by Craig B — 27 Oct 2009
I was flirting with giving Gacy a fresher review because, honestly, except for the first five minutes of the film (in which Adam Baldwin, our intrepid Jayne from Firefly, embarrassingly emotes as Gacy, Sr.
) the acting isn't half bad. The problem with this flick, though, is its half-assed script and its no-courage approach to the subject matter. If I'd canned this film, I would have made damned sure his crimes were as monstrous on camera as they were in real life.
Yes, the murders in this flick are still horrific, as murders tend to be, but anyone worth their weight in Gacy knows that his M.O. was far worse than this candy-colored treatment of him. My second gripe is that the movie ends on an unfinished note, as if the producers ran out of money half way through filming the final act.
What a disappointment.
