Review of Futureworld (1976) by Gareth M — 03 Mar 2010
Like with alot of sequels, it does suffer greatly from being a "Replica" of "Westworld" (Pun Intended). Group of people go to the Theme Park, which now has Futureworld, emphasis on Future, where West World being Past. Most of this isn't as good as Westworld though and does lull quite a bit.
Worst of all is the "Dream Sequence" which must be the blandest 5 mins ever shot to film.
The difference between this and the first one, is you know its all going to go horribly wrong, but this time so do the central characters. I think this film conspires to "Terminator" etc much more than the first one, in that the plot is more sinister, that the machines are taking over the world and not just the theme park. I liked the idea of cloning, and the detective nature to how Jarvis Cocker....I mean Peter Fonda goes about it. Also the ending is pretty good, in the not knowing who survives until the final scene. Its a decent underrated Sci-Fi movie that given the time it was made, pre stars wars, blade runner and terminator its a decent effort.
