Review of Futurama: Bender's Game (2008) by Justin W — 20 Mar 2009
I only watched a couple seasons of "Futurama", but I definitely loved the show. It was a great day in my life when I heard that the show would be coming back in the form of films after it had been canceled.
This movie is the third that has been released since the show has been canned, but it's only the second I've seen(the first being "Bender's Big Score"). "Bender's Game" is full of Fantasy references from "Dungeons & Dragons" to "Lord of the Rings".
Having grown up with a family where "Dungeons & Dragons" was very prevalent this allowed me to appreciate many of the jokes and references. I'm also glad to see a tribute to Gary Gygax within the movie as he was a major influence with the origin of the pen and paper roleplaying game.
"Bender's Game" is reasonably funny, However the movie has a chance to be really good by capitalizing on the Fantasy World and spending much more time there but it doesn't. However about half the movie is spent there while the other half is mostly forgettable.
If you enjoy Futurama, Dungeons & Dragons, or you're a Fantasy Geek you'll eat this up.
