Review of Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007) by Alfredo S — 01 Jul 2009
Doing right what The Simpsons Movie did wrong, instead of lacking everything that made the programme good, this celebrates everything we watch the programme for. But then it does wrong what The Simpsons Movie also did wrong - making up new and rather boring villains when the show has perfectly good villains already.
The plot is a mess as a hypnotised Bender chases Fry through time and a mysterious stranger romances Leela. Bender is really annoying as he isn't himself, and Fry, Leela and Bender don't spend any time together as a three, which is the crux of the show. Meanwhile, the twist about Lars is unbearably obvious.
When I first saw it, I was on a high - mainly because Futurama was back and we got to see Fry's dog living with him, but I soon came crashing down. On a second viewing, I was pretty much mellow. It's all right, and better than the two films that follow, but it isnt the best Futurama can do.
