Review of Fury (2014) by Leo O — 13 Dec 2017
The action scenes are intense and gritty, while most of the time staying at least somewhat grounded in reality. But, other than unabashedly depicting the horrors of war (and the depravity it leads to on both sides), it lacks any larger arch or take away.
Perhaps more like Generation Kill or Platoon than Saving Private Ryan, the lack of moralizing may appeal to some, but the apparent nihilism (if not apathy) in its outlook on history may turn off anyone looking for something deeper.
Ultimately, all you're left with is depressing scenes, sad moments, and a seeming endorsement of cynicism and the surrender of ideals in favor of acceptance and commradery from ones compatriots.
