A gritty war film that unfortunately just falls short. I think the main issue is the characters, you don't really have any empathy for any of them, even the new recruit who is the crux of the film. In fact after the dinner scene I had nothing but contempt for all of them apart from Pitt and Lerman.
The end set piece battle is spectacular but again it ultimately feels slightly pointless. Not so much disappointing just a let down.
