Review of Fury (2014) by Jens B — 27 Feb 2015
Advertised as a realistic WW2 movie, all it manages to be is a stereotypical "entertainment trumps realism" Hollywood US propaganda movie. Went into it expecting a halfway realistic depiction of both sides on the war, but in the end the Germans were braindead "always evil" Nazi zombies who never efficiently used the technical advantages they had, instead making sure that the US "good guys" could triumph over them in typical action movie style (like standing in the middle of a firefight, wielding a heavy machine gun, without immediately being killed).
Even the use of real WW2 tanks was disappointing - the Tiger could one-shot the Shermans at 2000 metres range, while the Sherman had to get without a couple hundred metres to be able to do anything. So why did the experienced Tiger crew give up their position, from which they already killed the other Shermans, and drive TOWARDS the hero tank, instead of just waiting there and going for the sure and safe kill? Makes no sense, just makes the viewers groan.
In the end, this movie is just a Propaganda movie with a bad script - not worth watching unless you are a proud citizen of Eagleland and enjoy movies which tell you how much better your country is, even if they need an unrealistic script to do so.
