Review of Fury (2014) by Abby D — 29 Mar 2015
I don't normally like war movies. They always seem to lack a captivating storyline, or they have one, but it gets buried in the gunfire and explosions. This movie is different. The characters all have personalities that are well developed, the story has background from before the movie that is evident in the characters, and the movie doesn't glorify war.
To some extent, by the nature of the genre, there is some glorification of our "heroes," but there is no clear "good guy." This shows the humanity in both sides of the fight, and also the cruelty of both sides.
The final line of the film is to me the most powerful, because it puts into question our ideas of being a hero. I love this film. I've watched it three times.
