Review of Fury (2014) by Tristan M — 24 May 2015
It seems that as time goes on, war movies stand less and less of a chance against their older brothers. But this movie was exceptional. It's intensity can stand up to that of the greats, but with its own new style.
World War 2 movies have been released again and again and it's hard to really bring anything new to the genre. The only areas that could use more attention is that of the Eastern Front, North Africa, the Pacific Theater, stories about medics, and tankers.
I know of only three movie dedicated to only focusing on tank crews, Fury, Lebanon, and Saints and Soldiers: the Void. Fury is the first of these first I have seen, and now that I've seen Lebanon I can say that it wasn't nearly as good and I frankly didn't enjoy it that much, and it makes me amazed at how original and good Fury turned out.
They really made any scenes inside the tank very claustrophobic and small feeling, and any time we saw the outside of the tank it is a huge metal beast. The action is great, intense, violent and gory, and in all reality some of the coolest parts of the battles is the ricocheting rounds going off the tank and the sounds they make.
I could go on and on about the battle scenes but I wont, I'll just say they were crazy and increadibly well done. The acting is very good, and with the tank filled with the actors it has that alone brings up the rating.
The script could have some changes however, has almost every war movie clichà (C) is used somewhere throughout the film. But it does have some very good quotable lines. The plot and story itself is good, just the fact that it focuses on a tank crew is great.
It's something we have barely seen, and it really does a great job of starting a potentially new genre. Above all that it really shows the shocking effects war has on the men themselves, and what they look and act like after being on the front line for three continues years.
It's really shows, and adds to the difference that the newcomer has compared to the veterans. Great movie, shows every bippppt of what war is like, and what a tanker is like, although is a little high on the heroics, being that the movie isn't a true story.
Anyway amazing movie, best of the year by far, best World War Two movie to come out since Saving Private Ryan, and best tank movie ever made. Gritty, violent, dirty, intense, realistic. Number three on my top 15 favorite war movie list.
