Review of Fury (2014) by Seth C — 11 Jun 2016
Fury is a solid war film with a great performance from Brad Pitt. The story takes place near the end of WWII when the Americans were deep into German territory. While the film delivers some great action sequences, the character development and plot is somewhat lacking.
The running theme of "War is hell" continues to be a tired cliche and is used to maximum effect in Fury. It was also confusing as to why the crew decided to make a stand near the end of the film.
There was certainly the alternative of retreating into the woods. It seems no one told the main characters that discretion is the better part of valor. I liked the action and Brad Pitt's performance.
I didn't enjoy the clichés and character arcs/decisions Fury is not a bad movie; it's actually decent. It just suffers from the same issues all war movies seemingly do.
