Review of Furry Vengeance (2010) by Tom R — 16 Aug 2010
I don't know how exactly to rate Furry Vengeance... it's critic-proof. It's stupid and everyone making it knows it's stupid. To be honest, there were a couple of really funny parts and they used real animals some of the time, which is a rarity in film nowadays.
The "green" theme is actually the lamest thing about the movie, never mind the slapstick. It's a lot like Unaccompanied Minors, where filmmakers with genuine comedic talent are given a PG script, so their humor feels neutered (although I would rank this movie above Unaccompanied Minors, because they went all out for some of the gags in this one).
I feel really bad for Brendan Fraser (the actor, not his character) because he gets pissed on, pooped on, and sprayed by skunks. He's really likable, so it's sad to see him in a movie that won't help his career.
I could go into the fact that a raccoon controlling the resistance against humans is pretty bad, even for a kids slapstick comedy, but I'm thinking way, WAY too much into this. A couple of final thoughts: you can usually tell the filmmakers think they have an unfunny comedy when they tack on a gag reel during the credits.
And why is it called Furry Vengeance when not all of the woodland creatures have fur?
