Review of Furry Vengeance (2010) by Tyler C — 02 Apr 2011
This film is 92 excruciating minutes of furry vengeance in itself. It's hard to tell what the animals are angry at: a pathetic Brendan Fraser in yet another stupid, clueless character with silly one-liners aimed at toddlers, or you, for being dumb enough to watch it. A thin, predictable premise combined with sappy, grossly cartoony animals and supporting characters make for one of 2010's biggest blunders. It's a miracle this movie even made it into theatres.
The film is about a family, with a strained father-son relationship hanging by a thread, as they move out into the woods to supervise a small housing development take place. When phase two is announced, however, the animals realize their days in this neck of the woods are numbered. So, they unleash a supposedly comic arsenal (not really) of surprises in an attempt to get the big, bad construction workers to go away. Needless to say, you can guess you emerges the battle victorious.
Here we have yet another movie where someone was bribed by someone with a bad idea, and someone had the worse idea to make a movie about it. Terrible acting, terrible script, low budget effects, and cheesy, childish, slapstick humour make for a waste of your time. The minor successes like what could have been a moving message about saving the animals has been whittled down to nothing more than a sad, pathetic joke, and whatever of the two romantic subplots have it's moments, which are soon disintegrated, like most else in the movie. If you're craving some shenanigans with your forest friends, rent Bambi. The same idea, but with none of those pesky humans to reduce it to rubble.
