Review of Furious 7 (2015) by D.j. C — 04 Jan 2016
It's hard to be harsh against a film where you know the lead actor tragically died during filming, and those remaining did the best they could to fill in the gaps and make the best movie they possibly could...
... but at the same time, I do have to be honest and admit, that this movie pushes the envelope further out than the previous installment - and is in danger of turning the series into a live action cartoon (which it already sorta is, but in a fun way.... this on the other hand, would be in the bad way).... I won't comment on the story itself, because I think that was begot from Paul's death, and they pieced it together the best they could... What I am not sure about is constant oneupmanship of the plot - in 4 they were busted a drug dealer, in 5 they heisted a bank vault, in 6 they battled a tank and took down a plane, now they are battling a small rouge gang of mercs, jason statham, oh - and a drone ship... oye... will the 8th film feature intergalactic aliens and flying cars?....
... I thought the Statham revenge angle was enough weight to carry this film, and ground it back down to earth - the added nonsense with the God's Eye McGuffin wasn't needed...
... All that being said, I still found most of the film entertaining - the mountain top chase / rescue is easily the highlight of the movie..
