Review of Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (2006) by Tabitha M — 29 Jun 2008
I can't really comment on the connection to the photographer, Diane Arbus, as I'm not overly familiar with her life/work, but I felt the film was a vague yet strangely beautiful portrayl of a segment of a life.
The film could've explored fetishism a little more clearly, perhaps, or even Diane's supposed mental state at the time yet it seems to scratch the surface on a number of issues but never really explores the depths.
Beautifully filmed, uncomfortably realistic at points, but even without knowing a lot about Diane Arbus I felt that this was a little vague and perhaps didn't capture the motivation behind her talent as well as it probably could have.
