Review of Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (2006) by Hannah M — 25 Jul 2008
A very intriguing film to say the least. I'm not going to lie, I watched this solely for Robert Downey Jr. but I was left pleasantly surprised from all angles: story, visuals, acting on all fronts.
On the surface it seems like some strange fetish film but on a much deeper level it picks at the idea of fascination and obsession and the lengths we will go to satisfy the delight. Nicole Kidman's performance was pretty good and I loved the overall change her character goes through in the film, highly symbolic.
Take the movie with a grain of salt, it isn't factual and I believe it deals more of human psychology than on the actual photographer. If you liked Secretary, you'll probably like this very much.
