Review of Funny People (2009) by Apurba S — 31 Oct 2011
Judd Apatow follows up 40yr Old Virgin and Knocked up with a slightly new approach. This film is half stand-up documentary and half bromance but thankfully its also very funny too, in a more sophisticated way than his previous movies.
Adam Sandler is more bearable than usual but still can't resist throwing in silly voices. His character is very depressing and I didn't ever feel sympathetic towards him. Seth Rogen on the other hand is better than ever and carries most of their scenes together. There a lots of other small characters thrown in (maybe too many) but that is where a lot of the more traditional Apatow humour is.
The DVD has both the theatrical and extended version. We watched the extended one. Not sure how much longer it was or what bits were added but nothing felt like filler.
